Achievement in co-curricular activities, particularly Music, Art and Drama is very important at Westonbirt Prep and creativity is fostered and encouraged. Inspirational lessons fire the children’s imaginations.
Music is an essential part of school life and is taught to a very high standard. Children are taught music throughout the school as part of the curriculum and many learn instruments in the string, brass, percussion and wind disciplines as well as taking individual singing lessons. Children are encouraged and given opportunities to perform individually and in ensembles and regularly showcase their talents through internal and external events.
Through Drama lessons, children develop confidence and communication skills.
This encompasses clarity, diction, vocal and facial expression and intonation and an early appreciation of poetry and prose. Individual Speech and Drama lessons are available and your child can work towards the LAMDA competition, Bath and Cheltenham Festival of Performing Arts or the Poetry Vanguard examinations. All children take part in an annual performance, including the flagship events that are our nativity and summer productions.
The school has its own art and design studio that is used by children across all ages. Children are encouraged to use creative ideas and imagination through a variety of media and have access to specialist art teaching and support. We also provide a number of art and craft after school clubs and the children’s work is displayed and celebrated around the school as well as in annual exhibitions at both the senior and prep schools.
