What is your job title?
Teacher of Product Design & Food
How long have you been teaching and where have you taught previously?
I have taught for 8 years mostly in Islington, London.
What is your favourite thing about teaching?
What inspires me most about my subject is also my favourite part of teaching: I am lucky to be able to provide students with the opportunity to turn an idea into a finished product. Watching students explore and develop their creativity, to be challenged and encouraged to work independently, using the tools and equipment that they need to manufacture products in a safe and creative environment.
What are enjoying most about teaching at Westonbirt?
The community at Westonbirt is so warm and welcoming. The students are really grateful for the teaching and learning and I have never been thanked so often for my lessons before! It is so lovely to hear that your planning and preparation is appreciated.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what book would you want to have with you?
I don’t think I could choose one book! I would like a desert island survival book for foraging tips. I would like to take the Little Prince by Antoine de Saint Exupery, to keep hold of the youthful and magical way of seeing the world. Finally, I would take Michelle Obama’s Becoming as she is such an inspirational person and speaker. It would also be a grounding reminder of the ‘real world’ when I am a castaway.
