In an eventful period for global politics, we have had a focus on political issues and the workings of parliament throughout the week. Last Saturday, in the Skills for Life session, Year 9 were lucky enough to have a live call with Councillor Joe Harris, leader of Cotswold District Council. Joe was very accommodating, answering questions from the pupils on a wide range of topics, including local housing policy, the government's response to Covid-19, the US election and his own experiences in politics amongst others.
Meanwhile, Years 7 & 8 discussed the workings of the UK parliament and how a bill passes through both the House of Commons and the House of Lords, before becoming law.
The Sixth Form Breakfast & Politics group continued in this vein, discussing education policy and the choices facing the government with regard to A Level and GCSE exams next summer. The US presidential election was also a hot topic; plans are afoot to send Joe Biden a Westonbirt coffee cup which, it was felt, would look quite fitting on the desk in the Oval Office!
