What is your job title?
Teacher of science (biology)
How long have you been teaching and where have you taught previously?
I have been teaching since 2013. Last year I worked as a tutor for both private students and young people in alternative provision. Before that I spent 5 years teaching science at a school in Swindon.
What is your favourite thing about teaching?
I became a teacher because I love science but found it tricky to decide which bit of science I loved the most. I realised the best way to spend all day talking about the sciences was to teach.
What inspires you most about your subject?
So much about science inspires me. From a teaching point of view, it's the fact that science teaches us how to learn from our mistakes. More often than not in science, when we discover we are wrong it is far more interesting than discovering we are right.
What are enjoying most about teaching at Westonbirt?
So far I'm enjoying the location. As a biology teacher how can I not! The landscape is full of various tree species, birds regularly appear at my window to feed, and there are bats living under the main house.
If you were stranded on a desert island, what book would you want to read?
I'm a bit of an Alice Roberts fan. Her book 'Tamed: Ten Species that Changed our World' is a book I could read again.
