A team from Westonbirt has been to an all girls school in Sierra Leone twice on educational and project exchanges, once in 2016 and another in 2018. The group, including staff and Sixth Form students, are helping to develop the curriculums of sport and music working with the teaching staff from Sierra Leone. Netball equipment and sports kit was taken over following fund raising in the UK by the Westonbirt students and from kind donations given to the group. Musical instruments were also donated and the team thoroughly enjoyed working with the students and teaching staff in Sierra Leone to assist with the music curriculum in school.
In February, we were delighted to welcome a group of staff and students from our partner school in Beijing China, No. 80. The school, founded in 1956, is a high school in the Chaoyang District and the beacon high school of the area with more than 3,000 junior and senior high school students. The majority of the high school students board.
The link between Westonbirt and No. 80 was established by our Headmistress, Natasha Dangerfield following a trip there a few years ago. This is the second year in which we have hosted a group of No. 80 students for an educational and cultural exchange. During the week the students enjoyed activities, such as our wonderful Lion King production, and also attended some English Language lessons.
Westonbirt partnered a few years ago with Fujimigaoka school in Japan. Since then, the school has enjoyed several memorable trips to Japan where Westonbirt staff and students have enjoyed spending time in the school, learning about Japanese culture and education and meeting girls from the school there. In turn, Westonbirt has been very happy to have hosted staff and students from Fujimigaoka school in Japan to our school in Gloucestershire where they have immersed themselves in our culture and delivered a presentation to our whole school community.
