Westonbirt Schools run a series of events throughout the year many of which are for the local community and the wider area to which we invite anyone who is interested to attend. These events range from lectures to open air music events and are a wonderful way to come and experience the Westonbirt schools site and enjoy the stunning grounds and gardens.
In this thought-provoking free lecture on Friday 26 January, Westonbirt Head of History, Mr Ahmed, will discuss how one of the greatest tragedies of modern times took place. He plans to explore the motives behind the devastating crime against humanity and consider how humans are capable of such horrifying acts. Mr Ahmed will illustrate how the Holocaust developed over time to become the infamous act we all recognise today. Perhaps most importantly, he will examine the consequences and lessons that should be reflected upon.
In June, Mr Ahmed visited Auschwitz concentration camp and Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp with two hundred other teachers and educators from the Holocaust Educational Trust. The focus of the trip was to promote teaching of the Holocaust through enhancing teachers’ knowledge of the individuals who were targeted by the Nazis. This fascinating lecture is suitable for adults and children from Year 9 upwards.
The free lecture starts at 7pm, with pre-lecture drinks from 6:30pm, you can also book an optional post-lecture supper in one of Westonbirt School's beautiful state rooms.
