We are pleased to be offering a new cardio and strength class to help our members and local residents to get in shape and to stay fit and healthy. The circuits class aims to help you build your strength and endurance in a friendly and fun small group setting, where everyone supports and motivates each other, and exercise can be adjusted to your current level of ability.
The class takes place on Monday mornings from 8.45am to 9.30am. It is available to our members at no additional cost, and for non-members at £4 per class. The class will be outdoor-based, beginning at the leisure centre for a warm-up, before jogging to a set location to perform a circuit of mixed exercises with bodyweight or light resistance, before jogging back to the leisure centre to stretch and cool down. As the class is weather permitting, the circuits training may have to be moved indoors if it is raining. The class is designed to offer the following benefits:
- Improve everyday fitness levels
- Improve your posture and skeletal musculature
- Improve joint stability to reduce the risk of injuries
- Improve bone density
- Increase lean tissue mass, which leads to an improved metabolic rate and helps to manage a healthy weight
- Reduce your risk of illnesses linked to sedentary lifestyle: Coronary heart disease, stroke, cancer, arthritis, type 2 diabetes, and obesity
The class is led by our energetic, motivating, and experienced personal trainer, Ms Lucy McDonald. Lucy specialises in weight loss and strength training, but will also help you get ready for your next big event, whether it be a triathlon or a 10k marathon. Lucy is very passionate about living a fit, healthy lifestyle and wants to help you to do the same: “Whether your goal is to lose weight, gain muscle, get stronger, or to improve your overall fitness, I will be by your side every step of the way to push you that extra mile. Fitness should be enjoyable and not a chore. I want to help people to realise this by making exercising tough but fun and sustainable by using the correct form and learning new and exciting exercises suited to you”.
